Life Is Too Beautiful 09/27/99
Nighttime at the Camden house finds Ruthie and Annie in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner. Matt comes in with Sam and David followed by Eric who tells Annie it was a wonderful meal - which is opposite what the kids said. Eric then gives her a big kiss and tells her that life is beautiful. Matt hands the twins over to Annie and rushes out to get her a burrito.

The next day, the kids wake up to the sound of Eric singing loudly. The kids check their watches then throw pillows over their heads to drown out the noise. Eric calls Matt at his new apartment to wake them up, but when Matt answers the phone Eric hangs up. Annie comes down into the kitchen and dances across the floor with her husband. Ruthie talks to Simon and tells him she wants her dad back to normal. Simon looks her in the eye and tells her that he is the man of the house now and if she did her homework.

Mary needs to have her math quiz signed and elects to have Eric sign it, because in his current condition he can't possibly get mad at her. Lucy goes with her to see her get busted, but to her surprise, Eric indeed doesn't get mad. Simon goes upstairs to shave, which Matt finds incredibly funny when he stops in. Simon is obviously hurt by Matt making fun of him, but tells himself not to cry.

The girls go to school and Lucy tells Mary she is trying to follow Eric's request to be nice to someone they have alienated. Mary asks if Lucy can help her with a basketball drill but Lucy says no way. Matt meets up with John at the campus and John says he is trying to make up with Shauna since she was upset he and Matt moved in together. Simon arrives at school carrying a stack load of books when he bumps into a kid in the hallway. The kid offers to help Simon carry his books to his locker and Simon tells him about his problem at home. The kid tells Simon to stop complaining and get a hold of himself.

Mrs. Beaker rings the doorbell, even though there is a sign saying not to. Annie thanks her for stopping by and closes the door on her. That night, Annie tries to peel an apple, but Eric keeps turning the lights on and off saying how miraculous electricity is. Simon goes up to tell Ruthie to take a bath then Lucy finds him and asks what she should be when she grows up. Matt comes home to grab some towels and once again makes fun of Simon shaving. Matt then tells Ruthie not to take a bath, which really makes Simon mad.

John and Shauna have cleaned up the apartment. Matt walks in and is uncomfortable having John spend all this time with Shauna and not him. Mary and Annie are at the kitchen table crying hysterically about hating math. The next morning, Mrs. Beaker once again comes over and Annie explodes on her about gossiping about them. Mrs. Beaker tells Annie that sometimes people gossip because they want to make a friend… and she is guilty of making friends the wrong way. Annie lets Mrs. Beaker in after she offers to help Annie out with some things around the house.

When Matt comes to pick up Simon after school, Simon tells Matt to get out of the car. Matt asks if he plans on beating him up, but Simon says no, he plans on telling him off. Matt gets out of the car and Simon does indeed tell him off and tells Matt that he is undermining his authority. Matt tells him not to get so upset. Simon says the thing that makes him the maddest is when he laughs at everything Simon does. Matt apologizes for laughing at him when he was shaving. Simon eventually gets teary eyed and Matt does too and the two hug in the car while Ruthie looks on from the back seat wondering when things will go back to normal.

Mrs. Beaker is still at the house and is helping Mary with math when Lucy walks in covered in dirt. Lucy says she has joined Habitat for Humanity. She is excited that she is helping people find homes. Simon goes to talk to Ruthie and asks if Ruthie has made any new friends at school yet.

When Matt gets back to the apartment, he tells John he resents him spending so much time with Shauna. John tells Matt he isn't his competition, other people who are friends with Shauna are. While John is telling Matt how much Shauna loves him, Shauna arrives and hears what's going on. She gives matt a big hug and the kiss.
