We start off our fourth year with the Camdens finding Eric at the hospital talking to one of his patients, telling them everything will be fine. Later at home, Ruth and the Colonel are visiting, and Simon shows off his new spiked hairdo. Eric fears the Colonel would be upset, but to his and everybody's surprise, he and Ruth say it looks good. George then walks in with his hair in dreadlocks, which further confounds the family. Everybody is uneasy, except Simon who finds it funny.
In the kitchen, Lucy and Mary remind Ruthie not to tell their grandparents about Julie or her new husband, Hank. We then see Eric in the hospital room again telling the patient it's going to be fine.
The next day, The Colonel is in the kitchen making pancakes. Eric comes downstairs and says he can't sleep because he has a lot on his mind. He says there are a lot of commissioners out of work so he has a lot of counseling to do. The Colonel asks if everything is fine with Julie. He is starting to suspect something is wrong due to her lame excuses for not showing up to see them.
Matt is still sleeping when Mary and Lucy sneak up to the attic and start planning out the new bedroom for when Matt moves out. Matt wakes up and tells them whatever they are planning, it will never work. Matt says he doesn't have any plans of moving out, but the girls tell him that he's 21 so it's time to go. He promptly kicks them out of his room. Back at the apartment, Matt and John finally get in to have a look around. What they see is a cluttered, dirty room, with unpainted walls, leaky faucets… and they are ecstatic!
Annie finds Ruthie watching cartoons, and starts to grill Ruthie to find out if she spilled the beans about Julie when she is interrupted by Matt who says he is going to go look for an apartment. When she is done talking to Matt, she turns around and finds Ruthie has disappeared and is nowhere to be found.
Eric goes to the church even though it's a Saturday, and is immediately hit with a phone call asking him to stop by the hospital before a parishioner's surgery. While he is on the phone, a young couple enters to tell him they have decided to sell their house. It's a tough decision since they inherited the house. The phone rings again and this time it's Julie who tells him she will definitely be over tonight.
Matt pulls up to an apartment building only to be scared to death by John who is also there looking at the apartment. While Matt and John look over apartment listings, Mary and Lucy are back in Matt's room planning out their new place. Annie once again stops their plans before they get more carried away. Ruth finds Annie later in the hallway who asks if she can take the kids to the mall to go shopping. Annie quickly downs that idea as well, and to keep them from going, she tells the girls to go move. Ruth suspects Annie is hiding something, but she denies it of course.
Eric comes back from the church and finds Simon and George talking in the living room. Simon says he looks a little funny but Eric shrugs him off. Eric finds out on the spot that everybody is changing rooms. Annie walks in and says Sgt. Michaels wants him to meet him at the police station. Later, Eric calls in from a payphone and asks if Annie needs anything. While he is on the phone, he gets paged yet again. He wipes his brow and calls Mrs. Hinkle who asks if he can pick up her blood pressure medicine.
Matt comes home and tells Simon he's found an apartment. Simon is angry that Matt is abandoning him, but the girls keep singing in joy. Heartbroken, Simon retreats back upstairs, knowing his relationship with his brother is changing fast. Hank and Julie arrive at the house bearing food. Hank tells Matt he found a job in the cafeteria at the hospital, and he accepts. Upstairs, Annie is arranging items in the twins' new rooms when Matt comes up. He tells Annie about his new apartment and she too is a little taken back. Simon comes up and reads Matt the riot act again. He tells Matt it's a tough time right now and he needs a brother right now. Matt says he can come over and hang out sometimes which seems to perk Simon up a little. They give each other a hug and realize that no matter what, they both love each other and will always be with each other in spirit.
Julie and Hank are getting the barbeque ready when Eric walks in with the groceries. Annie tells them the Colonel and Ruth are here. When they see Julie and Hank and find out they are married and Julie is pregnant. The Colonel tells her congratulations and that she looks beautiful. The Colonel's reaction once again stuns the family. Eric thinks aliens have abducted his parents. As the Colonel and Ruth head into the house, Eric grabs his arm and starts to bend over in pain. Hank checks his pulse and tells Julie to call the hospital and tell them they are on the way. Eric tells Annie he thinks he is having a heart attack. Annie tries to comfort him as he sits there stunned and in pain.
At the hospital, we see Eric in the chair, talking to himself in the hospital bed telling himself everything is going to be fine. When the doctor walks in, Eric tells the doctor he saw himself sitting in the chair. The doctor tells Eric everything is going to be fine and that the tests show he did have a heart attack. He says Eric needs to do some rehab and change his diet and most of all start relaxing. The Colonel and Ruth come in the room to also comfort Eric. The Colonel asks if he is the reason Eric had the attack. The Colonel asks when he got to be the bad guy. Eric starts laughing and tells him he's not the bad guy. He just didn't anticipate The Colonel being happy about Julie.
Annie goes back home to find all the kids camped out in the bedroom. She calls Eric in the hospital and all the kids yell "Love You Dad" and he replies in turn. They wish him goodnight and get ready for bed. Eric looks upwards and thanks God for giving him tomorrow.
