We catch up with Simon coming home from school with his friend Kyle, and the two wander into the kitchen and find Annie. After she notices how strange both of them are acting, she leaves the room for a few minutes so they can talk amongst themselves. Simon can't believe the film they saw today in health class and likens it to "The Nature Channel – with attitude." Mary and Lucy soon arrive and Annie walks back in the kitchen and they confide in her how they hope Matt doesn't have a date for the prom so he can take one of them. Ruthie also comes in and says that Snappy the Stegosaurus is performing right here in Glen Oak, and she knows her mom will find a way to get tickets.Meanwhile, at the Church, a man walks in and asks Eric if Matt could possibly take his daughter, Connie, to the prom. Eric is uncomfortable at the thought of asking Matt for this favor, but agrees that he will ask – but no promises.
That night, Annie tries frantically to find Snappy tickets for Ruthie, only to find they have been sold out for weeks. Eric finds Matt and asks him about Connie who at first refuses, but eventually says he will take her out – but says when Eric finds out the real reason he didn't want to take her, he doesn't want to hear about it. Matt then goes up the stairs only to find Simon in the hallway who immediately turns around. Matt gathers he saw the health class film and says now he is a man.
Mary gets a phone call from a friend of her brother's, who asks her and Lucy to go out on a double date. She says she will have to ask her parents, but it should be cool. She and Lucy scream for joy.
The next day, Eric overhears Annie still trying to get Snappy tickets, and says he used to date Snappy – then known as Debbie – in High School. Annie tells him to call her and get tickets so Ruthie won't be disappointed. As they are talking, Simon comes down the stairs and runs out the door before anybody can talk to him.
Later at school, Matt meets up with Connie and asks her to the prom. At first, she is embarrassed her dad asked Eric to ask Matt to take her, but she accepts the invitation. Matt says she should come over tonight and his mom will put a dress together for her. As they are talking, Mary and Lucy walk by and exchange surprised looks.
Eric comes back home with tickets to Snappy – plus backstage passes. Unfortunately, he only got two, which means Annie won't be able to meet his old girlfriend. Mary and Lucy ask Eric about having dates over, but Eric defers to Annie. Simon comes home and is stopped by Eric who tells him they should talk. Later when Connie arrives at the house, Annie looks up at the curtains then rips them down and sets about making Connie a beautiful green dress.
That night when Eric and Ruthie come home, Ruthie runs through the door screaming how Snappy is a fake and how many other lies have her parents told her. To Eric's surprise, Ruthie also says she doesn't believe in God anymore either. Eric explains how they went backstage and Debbie took the costume off and shattered the Snappy illusion. He tells Annie that Debbie is coming over to talk to Ruthie and hopefully set things right. After Matt and Connie leave, Mary and Lucy explain to their parents they just let Matt go out with the "High School Harlot." When the doorbell rings, the two girls rush to the door to meet their dates, only to find it is Simon's friend and his brother Casey. Simon laughs, knowing he is off the hook for a while.
Matt and Connie go to the prom and talk a while before going in to dance. After deflecting many attempts to kiss him, he gives her a kiss. The two dance at the prom and then later they go to the car and share what's left of the evening. Matt takes Connie home where she goes to make some tea so she and her dad can talk.
After Debbie leaves, Eric goes to talk to Ruthie about what happened, and explains that even though you can't see the wind or happiness, you can see their effect on people. Ruthie tell shim she wants to know if something good or bad will happen to her if she believes either way. He tells her that it is his belief in God that helps him get through the bad things. As he continues to explain, he is stopped by the sound of her snoring and leaves.
