Morning finds Simon and Ruthie digging inside two cereal boxes for the prize – commenting to Eric that it says actual size on the box but they still can't find it. Eric tells them that they will have a new addition to the family – a foreign exchange student from France. Mary and Lucy are intrigued by the prospect of another guy, not related to them, staying in the house. Annie comes in and Eric tells her the "good" news – it's the first she has heard of it. After she says they can't afford it and how much of a strain it will be for her, Eric says that if they didn't take him in, he would have to go back to France. Annie is still upset Eric didn't ask her about this sooner and asks when he will be arriving. Just then, the doorbell rings and the student introduces himself as Guy (pronounced: Gee). He compliments Annie and gives Eric a gift of wine and Cuban cigars. The girls come down and meet Guy who immediately takes to Mary and compliments her. Lucy speaks a little French to him and smiles. Ruthie asks if he really eats snails and Guy smiles and says yes. Meanwhile, Eric pleads with Simon to temporarily give up his room to Guy and move back in with Ruthie – he reluctantly agrees.

Lucy asks Mary if the French are born knowing how to French kiss. Mary says to treat him like he's their brother. Lucy then notices Mary is getting dressed up for dinner but Mary says she is just sweaty from practice. Lucy begins on a compatibility test to determine who is right for Guy.

Simon notices Guy's laptop and tries to strike up a conversation. He tells Guy he is the expert on surging the Internet, message boards, and chat rooms. Guy says he doesn't use the modem much and retreats to the bathroom where he opens a window and lights a cigarette. Later, Lucy grills Guy about what French men like about a woman. Guy says a woman's eyes are the window to the soul. He tells Mary and Lucy they should all go to the hangout place and he will pay for the cab fare there.

Simon takes Guy's laptop to the office where he starts surfing the Internet, chatting in The Tick chat zone. He tells his mom they have chat rooms for everything. She asks him to search for foreign exchange students and Simon narrows it down to French foreign exchange students. There, they log onto a chat room and are surprised to find Eric logged in from the church. When Annie types in she though he was working on his sermon, Eric is startled but then starts chatting with her in a private chat room. He calls her "cyber chick" which amuses Simon.

Simon goes upstairs and finds Ruthie looking through Guy's suitcase and finds a pack of cigarettes. Ruthie says maybe she can try one and tries to convince Simon to light it for her since she's not allowed to play with matches. Simon refuses and says if he were dad, he'd make her smoke the whole pack. Ruthie says O.K., and the two head to the bathroom.

Annie continues her online romance with Eric in the private chat room and they talk about the time they went to Seattle. The two start talking very intimately – all the while being spied on by a couple of kids from Eric's church.

The three arrive at the pool hall and Lucy and Mary's "date" is interrupted when Matt shows up with his date – who coincidentally happens to be going to France in a couple weeks. Guy asks Matt to take Mary and Lucy home for him after Guy and Matt's date hit it off. Matt knows he's been beat and does so.

In the bathroom, Simon and Ruthie fire up the cigarettes and Ruthie blames Simon for making her do it. Being sick and hardly being able to move, they send Happy downstairs to get mom. Annie comes running up the stairs and finds them collapsed in the bathroom and carries Ruthie out to her room. When Simon explains he's just as sick as she is, Annie says he should have known better. The only thing Simon gets is a big lick goodnight from Happy. Eric meanwhile, continues chatting with his "cyber chick" not knowing that he is now only talking with the two kids. Annie goes back in the chat room and tells him they have a problem and to come home right away. Eric goes to the pool hall and finds Guy and tells him they need to have a talk. Guy tells Eric he's been trying to quit smoking, and that Mary and Lucy misinterpreted his actions as being a come on. Guy decides that things aren't going to work out and leaves to go back to France.
