It Takes a Village

Eric and Annie are eating breakfast when Annie gets the feeling that something is up. Eric suggests that she let him and Morgan skip the family outing and go out for a guy's night on the town. Annie says they won't have many more opportunities to do a family outing before Matt and John go to college, but she finally gives in.

At school, John is talking to Matt and asks him to go to a jazz club that night, but Matt Reminds him that it is an over 21 club. Scott is talking to Lucy about doing some homework together after school and they decide that Scott will go to her house. Mary comes over and asks Lucy who the good looking guy was. Lucy tells Mary that he is only 14. Keesha asks Lucy to go to the movies with her so she can be with her boyfriend. Lucy accepts the invitation. We find Ruthie and Lynn in their first grade classroom, fighting over the attention of Mr. Lim-their substitute teacher. Finally, we go to Walter Reed where Simon and Nigel get invited to Jessica's make out party. Laura asks Simon to go with her .

Eric sneaks downstairs to the phone to call a Morgan about tonight. Morgan says they can't turn back now. He then tells his wife, Patricia, that Eric needs a guy's night out. Patricia is just as suspicious of them as Annie.

Lucy comes home and tells Annie about Scott and that Keesha invited her to the movies. Annie agrees and turns to Mary for her excuse, but she doesn't have one yet. Matt says John and him have to do something and then Simon enters and asks if she can go to a party that night. Annie tells him to go ahead, which surprises Simon. Ruthie then comes home and tells Annie that she and Lynn are having a fight and she isn't going anywhere.

Scott arrives and Mary answers the door and crashes the study date. Scott notices her reaction and is likewise taken with her. Lucy reminds Mary that he is 14 and not to make a fool of herself. Scott later finds Mary in the kitchen and tells her he came over because he really just wanted to talk to her and ask her to the movies – she accepts.

Lucy and Keesha meet up with their dates at the movies and Lucy is excited when she sees her blind date, Brian. They go into that cartoon movie. Later, Matt drops Mary off at the movies where she meets up with Scott and they to go into the cartoon movie and sit near the front.

At Jessica's party, Simon is sitting down. As soon as Jessica's parents to go upstairs, she starts the slow music and Simon and Laura-as well as the rest of the kids-start to dance.

Matt and John arrive at the club and Matt is surprised when John gets up and starts singing.

Eric and Morgan are at the pool hall shooting at a game and talk about their son's going to college. Morgan tells Eric that John has been offered a record contract, but he hopes John will stay close to home. A man in a wheelchair comes over and introduces himself as Kevin, Patricia's ex-husband.

At the movie, Scott puts his arm around Mary and she reminds him of his age. In the middle of the theater, Keesha and Lucy start snuggling with their respective dates when, unknown to them, Annie, Patricia, Lynn, and Ruthie come in and sit behind them.

At Jessica as party, Jessica starts "Seven minutes in heaven" and Laura volunteers her and Simon to go into the closet first. They enter the dark closet where Laura asks Simon who likes better-Red Lightning or The Tick.

Kevin, Eric, and Morgan talk and Morgan asks why Kevin hasn't come by the house. He also asks why Kevin calls every year on Valentines day. Kevin says that Patricia doesn't know about his accident and calling her reminds him of the past when life was care free and more simple.

Back in the closet, Simon confesses he has never kissed a girl before. Laura says she never has kissed a boy either, which surprises Simon since she has a reputation as the make out queen at school. Simon and Laura decide to give each other in their first mutual kiss. Right as they touch lips, Jessica's parents open the door to the closet.

Ruthie and Lynn noticed the making out in front of them in the movie theater and start mocking the love birds. When another couple moves out of the way., Patricia recognizes Keesha and yells. Lucy turns around and Annie stands up and scolds Lucy. Mary, hearing the commotion, sinks deeper into her chair trying not to be noticed.

When morgan tells Kevin he should stop by the house, he accepts and says he can go right now. When they get home, Patricia is shocked and gives Kevin a hug while giving Morgan "The Look." When Kevin is gone, Patricia finds Morgan and scolds him saying that if he wanted to meet Kevin, he could have just asked her to introduce them.

Matt and John go and scold Lucy and Keesha about getting a bad reputation before they are even allowed to start dating. During this, both sets of parents decide not to interrupt their sons giving their daughters a lesson, and instead just listen at the door.
