It's the middle of night in California and the Camdens are fast asleep in their beds – even Ruthie who is bunking with Mary and Lucy since Simon has one of his friends, Stan, over to spend the night. All of a sudden, Stan starts having a nightmare which wakes Simon up. Simon is concerned and goes and tries to wake Stan up, which alerts the rest of the house that something is wrong. Eric and Annie come in and make sure Stan is ok. After his parents leave, Stan reminds Simon of his promise not to say anything about what Stan told him before they went to bed.

The next morning, Stan and Simon ar eplaying basketball waiting for Stan's sister to pick him up and Simon asks if Stan would like to sleep over again that night. When Stan says Simon had better ask his parents first, Simon says it's no problem – they will say yes. Stan is excited to be spending the night over at the Camdens again, since he and Simon are going to talk about how to solve the problem at his house. When Stan's sister arrives, Matt notices her belt buckle and asks what it stands for. She says it stands for "Baby Doll" – but Matt knows it 's a gang symbol.

Lucy is doing one of the things she does best – talk on the phone. She gets excited about a seemingly routine trip to the mall. Mary notices,a nd asks what she is up to, but Lucy doesn't budge. Mary tells her that when Lucy tries to hide something – it is usually something stupid – so don't do it. Lucy doesn't listen and gathers her things.

While Ruthie is pestering Eric and Annie about how fast 100 Miles Per Hour is, Matt goes and talks to Simon. After Simon more or less tells Matt that Stan's sister is in a gang, Matt says he has no choice but to tell mom and dad. Simon explodes and says he promised Stan his most excellent promise not to tell – and that they were going to work it out. Simon says he wishes Matt wasn't his brother. Matt hopes some day Simon will understand why he had to do something.

When Lucy gets dropped off at the mall, she and her friends head straight to the restrooms where an ubelievable transformation takes place. The girls emerge in fake fur, short skirts and make-up galore and walk through the mall catching everybody's eye.

Eric goes to see Stan's parents about the possibility she is in a gang, and the parents are outraged that Eric would accuse their daughter of something like that. After a search of her bedroom yields nothing, Eric apologizes, but says he is glad he was wrong.

Annie, Mary and Ruthie go to the mall to pipck up Lucy a little early and Mary breaks loose from her mom to try and find Lucy before she does. When she does find Lucy, a 20-year-old mall worker is talking to Lucy trying to get a date. Mary warns Lucy that their mom is in the building but it's too late – Lucy is caught red-handed. Later that night, Annie says her trust in Lucy is shattered, and it will take time to gain that trust back – but it can be.

Eric and Matt overhear Stand and Simon talking about Stan's sister and head back to Stan's house on a hunch. This time they search Stan's room and under the mattress find weapons, drugs, and other gang materials. Stan's sster catches them and they confront her about what she is doing to their family. She says she can get out, but when she does, she gets beaten up very badly, scratched and ends up in the hospital. Stan gives her a hug and lets her know that he is grateful for her getting out of the gang – because it is the best for her, and for the family.
