    Original Airdate: 05/12/97

The morning finds Annie frantically cleaning the kitchen and interrogating Eric about the kid's chores since her father, Charles, is coming back to the house for the first time since her mother's death. The two wonder where Simon and Ruthie are and rush upstairs to find them both in the bathtub trying to convince Happy to jump in -Annie is not amused and Eric takes care of the situation.

On the way to California, we find out that Charles already has a new girlfriend, ginger, whom he is bringing to meet Annie. Annie seems to be more nervous than Charles is about meeting his kids and grandkids - but Charles tells her everything is going to be fine.

Simon is trying his best to clean his room since Ruthie is at the park with Mary and finds a Cosmopolitan magazine on the top shelf of the closet. When he starts flipping through it, Lucy catches him and demands he turn over the magazine. At first refusing since it isn't exactly Playboy, he gives the magazine to his sister - later pointing out a free sample of a hair dye included in the magazine.

Eric and Matt head off to the airport to meet Charles and while there Matt spots a beautiful girl who he thinks just keeps walking by and snubs him.

Mary and Ruthie arrive at the park where they meet up with a boy, Wilson who is playing with his brother, Billy. Mary takes an immediate liking to Wilson while Ruthie and Billy play with trucks in the sand. Wilson asks Mary for her phone number and she obliges.

Eric and Matt arrive home and Eric tries to warn Annie about Ginger but is interrupted by Charles who barges in to give Annie a hug. When he introduces his girlfriend, Annie is shocked and doesn't know what to say. At dinner, everyone notices Annie's change of attitude. After lunch, Matt takes Charles and Ginger home and spots the girl from the airport going into a house. At their encouraging, Matt goes up and rings the doorbell and is introduced to the girl, Heather, who is deaf. Matt asks her for a data and her mom urges her to accept.

Eric gets ready to go to dinner and finds Annie still adamant about not going - not to mention still very upset. She is even too angry to help Eric interrogate Wilson. Charles calls and says he should cancel dinner and Annie finally admits to Eric that she hates Ginger.

After passing the dad test, Wilson takes Mary to the pool hall where they take turns at the pinball machine. While there, Mary and Wilson are heckled by Michael, the boy who harassed Mary at school. Mary steps in and defends Wilson, which causes Wilson to get upset.

Matt and Heather go out on their date to a party where Matt becomes aware of the people around him making comments and gestures in their direction. After Heather sees a couple guys making phony signs to her, she runs off and writes a note to Matt with the words "Home Now" on it.

Eric has a talk with Ginger and while escorting her out, Lucy comes down the stairs screaming about her now blonde hair. She tells Eric he was the one who told her to put the dye in her hair in the first place. When Matt comes home he tells Lucy her hair looks beautiful but she runs up the stairs still very upset.

Simon goes to Annie bedside and asks why she doesn't like Ginger. He tells her that Charles' new stepkids didn't like him either.

The next day at church, Wilson brings Billy to the services and tells Mary that he isn't his brother, Billy is his son. Mary is shocked and follows the two guys inside. Annie seems to have calmed down during the night until her father and Ginger arrive. She gets up and storms out of the church with Mary following after her. As Mary chases her across the street, Mary is hit by a speeding red car and knocked unconscious. Annie rushes to her side in horror.
