When Eric asks the family if they know why Matt missed church, Simon says he doesn't know, but it probably has something to do with a girl. Matt calls home and Eric asks where he has been. Matt tells him that he can't tells him but asks Eric to just trust him. Eric reluctantly agrees. Lucy asks what the family is going to do for her thirteenth birthday - but Eric says no to a boy-girl party. We find out that Matt at Mrs. Bink's house helping with some odd jobs. When he gets ready to leave, she once again asks him not to tell his father.

Simon gets ready for school and is concerned when he can't find Happy. Later he finds out that Matt let Happy outside, and Simon can't believe his brother would let a pregnant dog go out alone. Simon says he isn't going to school until Happy has her puppies - to which Annie tells him Happy will be fine and to get to school.

Eric heads to the church with tools in hand to break a few things so he can pay an unemployed father, Steve, to fix them. Steve catches Eric breaking a rain gutter and tells Eric he can't keep breaking things like that just to pay him. He turns down Eric's offer of monetary help and tells Eric to have a little faith.

At school, Jimmy's friend Dwight asks Lucy to come to his birthday party that Wednesday. Lucy is upset because Jimmy is going to Dwight's party instead of spending time with her.

In the middle of the school day, Matt is called to the principal's office where he surprised when the secretary tells him that his "Aunt" Bink has an emergency at home. Matt calls Mrs. Bink who tells Matt he has to come over right away. Mary is brought into the mix when she overhears the secretary telling Matt to leave school and tells him if he's skipping then she is too. When they arrive at Mrs. Bink's she doesn't answer the door so Matt and Mary let themselves in and find Mrs. Bink asleep on the couch. She says everything is fine and she can't remember why she called. Matt tells her he can't keep helping her out and skipping classes at school.

That night, Happy has he puppies and the family gathers around Happy's new arrivals. The school secretary calls and Eric interrogates Matt and Mary as to why they skipped school. After Matt says he can't tell them, Annie suggests they trust the kids on this one.

The next day, Mrs. Bink calls again and this time Matt tells her he can't come over. She then tries to reach a can of money on a top shelf in the kitchen herself and falls to the ground. The hospital calls Matt and tells him what has happened and this causes Matt to finally tell his dad what he has been doing. They both go to the hospital to check on Mrs. Bink and find out how serious it is. The doctor tells Eric that luckily it is only a broken ankle - and that most of all Mrs. Bink needs to feel needed. Eric comes up with an idea and asks Mrs. Bink if she can afford to hire Steve on to fix up her house, and she agrees. Later, she tells Steve he can fix up the garage and use that as an apartment until he gets back - and she gets back - on his feet.

Mary was completely unsuccessful to get Lucy to change her mind about going to Dwight's birthday party. After coming back from the family dinner, Lucy is surprised when she goes into the living room and finds Dwight, Jimmy, and all of her friends there. While dancing with Dwight, he tells her that he thinks he is in love with her. Annie takes Jimmy Moon for a spin on the dance floor - even Simon gets into the act when asked by a girl to dance. Lucy debates her situation - Dwight vs. Jimmy and doesn't know what to do.
